Throughout history, idiomatic expressions like sayings and proverbs have emerged as effective ways of teaching, condensing entire stories into just a few words, making them easy to remember and pass on to the community. Many of these expressions have survived to the present day, but over time their original stories have faded into the background, often disappearing entirely.
As an illustrator, I selected a number of these popular expressions and, through my drawings, gave shape to the original tales hidden beneath them. At the same time, I brought to life the ancient rural italian society before the World Wars, which now seems so distant from us – despite being constantly evoked in proverbs and sayings.
